This morning we are handing over to Allison and Rachel, who are going to tell you all about the genius instagram challenge they’ve devised for this year’s Wovember in place of our annual photo competition; without further ado, please give a warm welcome to our Yarn in the City buddies and comrades in wool!

This year’s Wovember theme of Woolness: where wool meets wellness strikes a strong chord in us. Wool is our comfort in times of stress, our outlet for creative inspiration, warmth that surrounds our children and partners through the dreary UK winter, and above all is a living material that is a joy to work with. Yarn sliding through our fingers centers us, providing a meditative space that feeds our hearts and souls. Whether we are knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving or venturing out to the British countryside to explore our adopted country (and sheep-spot!), wool is the common thread that runs through much of what we do and what we want to share with others.

We are so excited to be hosting the 2017 Wovember Instagram Photo Challenge, and are looking forward to seeing all your contributions. Come share how wool keeps you well, and bring on Wovember! #wearwoolforwovember #wearwooleveryday

Curious how the Wovember Instagram Photo Challenge will work? Read on for more details!

Step #1
Follow @yarninthecity and @wovember on Instagram (if you haven’t already!)

Step #2
Check out our daily photo prompts post on our website.

Step #3
Post your photo/reflection/commentary as it relates to the day’s prompt to your own Instagram account. Be sure to tag your post with #wearwoolforwovember #wearwooleveryday and #wovemberinstachallenge so that others can see your posts too!

This is a great way for you to find new people to follow, and for them to find and follow you back.

That’s all there is to it! In addition to posting our own images, we’ll also be randomly regramming our favourites throughout the month.

At the end of the month we’ll select two winners: 1) most popular photo using the Wovember hashtags and 2) random winner from all participants over the month. Each winner will win a prize from the lovely Wovember Photo Challenge sponsor, Blacker Yarns!

– Allison and Rachel, Yarn in the City

Allison and Rachel, North American transplants, met in autumn of 2012, and have been getting up to wool-inspired shenanigans ever since. Their first enterprise was the inaugural Great London Yarn Crawl in 2013 (which has just celebrated it’s fifth anniversary) and they soon branched out to day trips to crafting-inspired destinations Bath and Brighton, workshops with fabulous knitting teachers from near and far, a guide book to London’s yarn, fabric and haberdashery shop, and the Yarnporium wool festival, set to return for it’s second edition in November 2018. Throughout all of these adventures, wool has been front and centre. All content © Allison and Rachel.
